Office Principles Delivers £6M Refurbishment for Mothercare

Mothercare has chosen Office Principles to deliver a total redesign of its corporate head office to enhance its brand for the future.

The Office Principles team is now midway through what is a four phase operation at the Watford HQ of Mothercare, the UK’s leading maternity and baby brand. The project began as a result of Mothercare’s review of its estate and the decision to revamp their offices into a reflection of the brand and a permanent base for up to 20-years.

At the heart of the redesign and refurbishment is a mission to boost productivity, engage with their employees and truly connect the brand with the day-to-day operation – in short to make the offices a happier and more productive environment.

Office Principles were appointed following a feasibility study by CBRE, but quickly undertook its own audit of the needs for Mothercare employees as well as the broader business. The employees, mainly drawn from Generation Y were demanding a much more flexible space – something that worked well with the overall brand – but a look and feel somewhere between Art Deco and Google.

Office Principles is now delivering a project scheduled to complete in November 2016 that will be a modern look using the bold Mothercare brand colours right across the four floors of the office. This requires phasing of the refurbishment with the creation of a ‘swing space’ as teams have to move from their floors during the works.

Stephen Parsons, project director for Office Principles says:
“This is a great turnkey style project where we have been involved from the concept in December last year and it is wonderful to see it transforming at each phase. It is a challenge to manage the expectations of the 700 employees across 19 departments and so many floors, but the work is on schedule and we can already see some positive reactions in the Mothercare workspace. We are looking forward to handing over a transformed space in November.”
