Technology is always changing and evolving, allowing us to work as effectively as possible. It is hugely exciting for us to be able to see the changes that are coming, and then be able to implement this smart technology into the workplaces that we create for our clients.
How smart is your office?
Have you heard about Windows Collaboration displays or WCDs for short? Microsoft announced this new category of devices last year. The TV that does everything! They aim to digitise our workspaces in a way not seen before. They are being used in small and large meeting rooms, demo rooms, classrooms, Huddle rooms as well as open layout and offices.
But are these not the same as large touchscreens, interactive whiteboards or Surface Hubs?
The answer to this is a simple no. Windows Collaboration Displays have some big differences which include integrated sensors, integration with Azure IoT and a one cable approach with USB-C. They also come equipped with far-field microphones, cameras, and speakers for video conferencing and a large high-resolution multi-touch ink-enabled display.
So, what are the benefits for my business?
They have one truly unique feature and that is the integrated sensors, which offer exciting ways of managing data and getting new insights into the management of assets and resources. The sensors can measure areas such as:
- Meeting occupancy
- Temperature and humidity
- Ambient light
- Air quality levels.
These sensors connect to Azure IoT spatial intelligence capabilities and the data generated can be used by your facility manager enabling them to make real-time decisions - creating a more comfortable meeting room environment and saving energy. For example, if the sensors detect no movement of people in the meeting room for more than 15 minutes, it can automatically make changes to the room booking system.
With a WCD it is simply a case of ‘plug and play’. The single USB-C cable enables your staff to connect their device quickly and easily with no time wasted in set up. The experience the user gets on the large screen is exactly the same as on their own device - cameras, microphones, and speakers are automatically recognised and can be used for video and audio conferencing.
If you want to digitally transform your meeting rooms and create a modern workplace then Windows Collaboration Displays should be on your review list.
