Planning permission has just been granted for a new skyscraper scheme at 40 Leadenhall Street, in the City of London.
Based in the heart of the insurance district of London, the Leadenhall Triangle site was bought by Henderson Global Investors in May 2011. Make Architects have designed the new building which will vary in height between 7 and 34 storeys. The design of the office building has been created in vertical slices where the tallest part at 154 metres high is positioned north of the site to complement the surrounding tall buildings on the London skyline. The design steps down in height toward the river Thames, to remain sensitive of the southern views.
The whole scheme will cover 0.59 hectares, and will reside around a grade II listed building at 19 – 21 Billiter Street built in 1865.
The new high rise office block will cost around £400 million, and construction is expected to start in the first half of 2015.
The development will contain 82,000 square metres of grade A office space which will provide an opportunity for stunning new office design.
