In 2012, the construction of the building once known as The Pinnacle stopped, leaving behind only foundations and part of the lift core. Because of its half-completed appearance, it was labelled ‘the Stump’. Now though, a new skyscraper is to be built in its place, and it is to become the tallest tower in London, with 63 storeys reaching 278 metres.
The Bishopsgate building is going to focus on public wellbeing and healthcare, complete with a medical centre and library, as well as sports facilities and parking for over 1,500 bicycles.
It will contain office space for over 12,000 people and a public viewing gallery at the very top of the building, along with a bar and restaurant.
Lipton hopes that 22 Bishopsgate will be “an elegant addition to the City”, towering over its competitors such as the Gherkin and Heron Tower.
