On Monday the 24
th of February, the team at Office Principles took part in a charity bakesale for Launchpad, Reading۪s leading homelessness prevention charity.
We were lucky enough to have Kirsti Wilson, Head of Marketing and Fundraising at Launchpad, come in to speak to us about the charity, giving us an insight into the lives of those who find themselves homeless, what homelessness actually looks like and what we can all do to help.
Launchpad were originally founded in 1979 by students at Reading University, and were named Reading University Soup Project۪. They renamed in 2010 to Launchpad, and now have over 50 employees and 120 volunteers. They have since built 5 one-bedroom homes to accommodate homeless people in Reading, giving them the chance to get their independence back. They also help people to rebuild their lives by providing advice, financial skills, education, training and employment.
This year, Launchpad are building a work and life skills centre, which will enable people to be taught basic cooking skills, learn how to maintain a home and practice self care. There will be an IT suite for job searching and online learning, a counselling service, and also a well being suite for creative activities.
Office Principles wanted to be able to help with this brilliant cause, and our team had a busy weekend baking cupcakes, scones, and quiches. The event was a brilliant way to get the company together, all speaking about a local charity close to our hearts.
We are very proud to announce that we managed to raise 14 for Launchpad.
