This week sees the launch of our environmental credentials document, Sustainability Principles. It’s been drafted to outline exactly what we’ve achieved over the years and what we’re pledging to achieve moving forward.

We’re hoping that, with this document, we can provide our market with a clear and candid picture of the point at which Office Principles is at; the journey it’s taken us to get here and what we propose to do to raise the bar and stand proud of our environmental principles, taking on a role as a leader in our market and meeting our responsibilities.

In the introduction to Sustainability Principles, we talk about how the world has moved on; we’ve reached a point where environmental sustainability is no longer a choice.

This is true for everyone. We all have a vested interest and the changes that are required have to be significant and meaningful in order to count.

As a business, with a reach that spans multiple sectors, engaging suppliers from all over the UK, Office Principles stands accountable. Stakeholders, employees and customers expect a demonstration of responsibility. The people that we work with, and for, need to know they’re connecting with a company that commits to putting sustainability at the heart of its business model; channelling a cohesive strategy where the environment informs all of our decisions.

Sustainability Principles reflects this commitment. Take a look at these credentials and you’ll find a record of our accreditations to-date, our focus on PAS2060 and Carbon Neutrality, and what we pledge to achieve going forward.

PAS2060 is particularly important to us and so we take the opportunity, in the credentials, to specify the work we’ve undertaken, with the support of an external environmental consultancy, to certify our operations as carbon neutral in line with the PAS2060 standard:

We wanted to counterbalance our energy use and contribute fairly, so our emissions were measured and credits were obtained and verified according to the UN Carbon Standard. These credits have been used to support the Mexican National Strategy for Climate Change, paying for the distribution of up to 30 million energy efficient light bulbs to householders and financing a series of public education campaigns and messaging to support better energy saving. A Carbon Footprint Management Plan (CFMP) is now in place and details our targets for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission reductions.

Sustainability Principles also sets out to highlight our future objectives, including the initiation of site environmental management plans; more environmental toolbox talks; the reduction of waste to landfill by 20 per cent; the management and control of effluent discharge across all operations; and to achieve carbon net zero emissions across all business operations by 2030.

It’s important to keep the momentum going and to continue to look forward. And not just for us… Sustainability Principles runs through everything we do. If we partner with you, we have an obligation. These principles will be extended to our clients and our project work. We’ll ensure that you save energy and we’ll assist you in reducing the environmental impacts of your working spaces; we will help you to make a positive impact on the wellness of your team and to enhance the perception of your brand.

The credentials we have put together outline the ideologies that we will put into practice and lay down what we will do to guide you. We recognise that what we do, and the choices we make, reflect on our clients and so we have to get this right.

Sustainability Principles is a way of showing everyone – suppliers, stakeholders, partners, employees and customers – that Office Principles has the right foundations in place and we are keen to own the future.

Take a look at Sustainability Principles and let us know if you have any questions. We believe it stands up to scrutiny – let us know what you think. We’d be happy to talk you through our commitment and what this means for you.
