Office Principles North has been chosen to deliver a new dedicated facility for students at Phoenix Primary and Secondary School in East London.
Office Principles North will transform a vacant two-storey building on Bow Road, Tower Hamlets, into a multi-faceted learning environment to support children and young people with autism.
Formerly used as residential accommodation, it will be converted into ground floor studio apartment-style living space, complete with a large open plan kitchen and purpose built workstations. The first floor will be reimagined as a modern office suite with adjoining student therapy rooms.
Office Principles North will construct a single storey extension to the existing building, with a new flat roof and refurbished windows. Externally, the façade will be modernised in keeping with the building’s location within the Tredegar Square Conservation Area.
The fast track programme will be delivered by Office Principles North in partnership with G4S and follows its recent office refurbishment of an adjacent reception welcome area in the main school building. It is expected to be completed in Q2 2024.
Phoenix is a fabulous school that provides a unique service to young people in Tower Hamlets. We’re very pleased to be working alongside G4S to transform a redundant building into a facility that will deliver added value for students. This project is driven by the school’s passion for helping students to thrive, giving them the practical space to prepare for adulthood and the world of work. It’s unlike typical fit out projects in that the design balances the need for aesthetics with the demands of a learning space, where student safety is paramount.
