PFU Fujitsu was really keen to bring teams that had been split in its previous office together in a shared environment that would promote a sense of unity. Office Principles was awarded the contract on the strength of its designs and the commitment shown at tender stage.

An environment that encourages creative teamwork and collaboration, along with a office interior design to offer an impressive customer experience, factored high on the agenda for this client. PFU wanted a consultative partnership with an expert that could guide them through the design and fit out process and provide them with best in class office space and facilities.

The project comprised of the fit out of a reception, with back lit brand logo, front of house, and product demonstration room, with access to dedicated training and meeting areas; a video suite for content creation and a comms room; a breakout area, café space and kitchen area; collaboration spaces and an outside terrace; the design, supply and installation of furniture.

The café, fitted with high quality, built in appliances, provides a multi-function area, doubling as town hall space, and has a balcony providing the opportunity for fresh air and a change of view. The iconic, Scanomat top brewer coffee machine, with Apple iPad control, can be found in both the café and reception areas.

High end equipment and technology was installed in the comms room, along with water and leak detection apparatus. Additional cooling and fire protection aspects, including slab to slab walls, were also fitted in this space.

Raised access floors have cabling running underneath and there are three offices built into the left hand side of the main floor space, of a similar style and size. Breakout and collaboration zones are interspersed throughout the open plan area.

A central atrium allows views across from one side to the other, with light penetrating into the floor plate and a visual that encompasses the whole of the floor. This aspect highlights and supports the concepts of unity and openness.

Flexible meeting room layouts are complemented with sliding walls. These rooms are soundproofed with double partitioning to avoid noise transfer. They have co-ordinated audio visual systems fitted to the walls to sit with the overall considered design and aesthetics of the spaces.

A large boardroom, for the purpose of internal meetings and senior dialogue, is located in the back corner and is double glazed, with sound insulation. The glass has been treated to allow discretion, with blinds to all glass to ensure total privacy as and when required.

The demonstration area, directly behind the reception, provides the main sales hub.

Putting brand and sales space front and centre, this bespoke room, with sideboard, screens and lectern, is a showcase feature of the overall space design. A stage area has been created with light above the lectern and plinth, allowing PFU to display its own products in the most professional manner; demonstrating them alongside competitor products in order to compare and contrast individual items.

IT and audio visual elements have been integrated to create the best experience, with unique lighting delivering this high concept, extra special space.

We certainly chose the right team with Office Principles. The overall design and flow of the workspace is really good and being able to separate off dedicated customer and visitor areas works very well for us too. The breakout area has been a big hit and everyone likes the new furniture. Our preferences and requirements were interpreted and reflected in the final choices and it’s been great to have such a high level of expert guidance throughout.

There were some design challenges that we relished, particularly when establishing the customer zone. This area has a high tech spec, in order to create the right ambience, and offers a memorable experience going beyond initial expectation in terms of function and design. We’re delighted to be able to include this project in our portfolio.
