Potenza Technology tasked us with creating a new UK headquarters that would unite their entire workforce under one roof in a space that embodies their automotive heritage while breaking down the barriers that typically divide different parts of the business.

Specialising in low and zero emission technology, they serve as the UK electric vehicle battery R&D centre for FPT Industrial, part of the IVECO Group. Their expertise spans automotive safety engineering and technology development for vehicle manufacturers across the industry.

In just 20 weeks, we've transformed 26,000 sq ft of blank industrial canvas into a bold, immersive workplace destination where each department and clients share the same space. This isn't just an office with a workshop attached – it's a unified workplace that puts Potenza Technology's automotive heritage on full display, from circuit board-inspired ceilings to a branded van built right into the design.

Breaking down barriers: The brief

The vision was to create a UK headquarters for Potenza Technology and parent companies that would make a powerful statement about their brand while solving a fundamental workplace challenge.

We needed to transform a completely empty industrial building into a cohesive workspace that would bring together traditionally separate workforces.  Workshop  and, office employees, and visiting clients needed to feel equally welcome and connected in the new space.

This wasn't simply about creating an office or upgrading a workshop – it was about designing a destination that embodied Potenza Technology's identity and created a genuine sense of community across all levels of the organisation. Every space tells a story, and this one needed to celebrate unity, innovation, and the power of people working together.

We would need to deliver a design that was bold enough to reflect the Potenza Technology brand, yet inclusive enough to make every employee feel valued. A key technical requirement was maintaining the building's EPC A rating while navigating the complexities of evolving building regulations.

From empty shell to automotive showcase

The new UK headquarters successfully bridges industrial and corporate environments, creating a unified home for Potenza Technology's diverse workforce.

On the ground floor is what we've created as a “town hall” – a flexible multipurpose area designed for everything from company-wide meetings to social events. This adaptable space features moveable furniture that allows Potenza Technology to transform it for different occasions, supporting both formal gatherings and informal celebrations.

The ground floor seamlessly integrates workshop operations with social spaces, featuring a large communal lunch area where staff from all departments come together. This democratic approach to workplace design breaks down traditional hierarchies and encourages interaction between teams who might otherwise never meet.

The industrial character of Coventry's manufacturing heritage is celebrated rather than hidden. We've retained concrete floors and exposed ceiling with vertical steelwork visible, creating an authentic connection to the building's purpose and location.

Immersive brand experience

The design language throughout the headquarters draws directly from Potenza Technology's automotive heritage. We've incorporated a real front end of an IVECO van into the space, functioning as a unique meeting area where employees can step inside and use it as a private booth.

Circuit board-inspired patterns feature in the ceiling baffles and glazing manifestation, while the FPT colour palette of bold black and red runs throughout, carefully balanced with softer tones to maintain an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere.

Our design includes themed areas that reflect Potenza Technology's business with a touch of humour. 'Pit stop' and 'Charge point' kitchen areas provide convenient refreshment spaces, while meeting rooms bear names like 'Amp' and 'Watt… Another Meeting', showing that functionality and personality can coexist.

This project exemplifies our approach to workplace design, understanding that offices are no longer just places to work, but destinations that bring people together and reflect company culture. Potenza Technology wanted to break down barriers between different parts of their organisation, and we've delivered a space where workshop and office staff, and clients can interact naturally throughout the day. The bold branding and industrial aesthetic create a powerful statement about who Potenza Technology are, while the social spaces and thoughtful amenities ensure everyone feels welcome and valued.

Spaces that support wellbeing

The first floor houses the main office areas alongside additional breakout spaces and a wellness room. A quiet work zone provides concentrated workspace when needed, while the upstairs coffee point offers another opportunity for spontaneous collaboration.

The extensive planting scheme throughout brings nature inside, softening the industrial aesthetic and contributing to employee wellbeing. Large glass windows in meeting rooms overlook the workshop floor, maintaining visual connectivity between different areas and reinforcing the sense of one unified team.

Transforming the workshop space

Making the workshop itself a showcase space was fundamental. Where there was once complete emptiness, we've constructed all walls and extended an existing small mezzanine, adding a new staircase to improve circulation. The result is a 'wow factor' workshop with large open walls and prominent branding – a space that Potenza’s employees are proud to show oversea visitors.

Their vision. Our expertise. A powerful partnership – that's what made this project a success.

Following the successful delivery of two UKBIC projects, this marks our third project in Coventry, reinforcing our commitment to the region and our track record in transforming industrial buildings into contemporary workplace environments.

The design celebrates our automotive heritage while providing the modern, flexible amenities our people need. From the impressive social spaces to the thoughtful integration of our brand throughout the building, OP has created a workplace we're incredibly proud to call home.
