Colour, comfort and smart spatial planning – the design elements that turned a blank canvas into a workplace people love.

We've partnered with Deriv to transform their blank canvas workspace in London into a vibrant, welcoming office designed for innovation and collaboration – a destination that inspires creativity through thoughtful design, personality and choice.

Deriv is a global online trading platform serving over 3 million clients worldwide, with operations spanning multiple geographies and a 26-year track record of innovation in financial technology. Operating across multiple markets, the company combines cutting-edge technology with user-friendly interfaces to serve a diverse global client base.

The six-week refurbishment of Deriv's London office demonstrates how strategic use of colour psychology and functional design can create a workplace that supports dynamic collaboration while offering something entirely unique.

Reimagining the modern office experience

Creating an office space that inspires creativity and supports dynamic collaboration is one of the key challenges facing employers today. Deriv had recently moved into their London workspace – an opportunity to design an environment that would provide the warmth, variety and diverse working styles needed in a modern workplace. The space needed to capture the dynamic, welcoming atmosphere that Deriv had successfully cultivated in other global locations.

Deriv's brief was a creative workspace designed for innovation and collaboration both within the London team and with colleagues in other UK and global locations as it scales operations and advances its AI-first technology strategy.

The challenge was to transform this space into a comfortable, inviting workplace with genuine personality and warmth – somewhere that would support the kind of dynamic, innovative work culture that defines Deriv.

Designing a space worth choosing

We've completely reconfigured Deriv's workspace, changing the entire floor plate from one end to the other to deliver a colourful, functional environment.

Where once there was a blank canvas, visitors now encounter a vibrant workplace where colour plays a central role in enhancing mood, productivity and the overall employee experience.

Creating impact through colour

The design features a vibrant colour palette woven throughout the entire workspace. Pastel multi-coloured chairs inject energy and visual interest, while multi-coloured light fittings add warmth and impact.

The strategic use of colour creates an engaging environment that lifts mood and enhances the overall employee experience.

The close collaboration with Deriv throughout the design process resulted in a fantastic outcome. The client's enthusiasm for colourful design allowed us to create a workplace where people genuinely want to be. We've transformed a blank canvas into a vibrant, welcoming space with real personality and variety.

Spaces that work

The new layout delivers the variety and functionality required for modern working. Four individual offices provide private spaces for focused work and confidential conversations. A strategically positioned meeting room better serves the team's needs, with the overall reconfiguration streamlining from two meeting rooms to one more effective space.

At the heart of the transformation is a welcoming breakout area that encourages collaboration and social connection. Collaborative tables and chairs offer flexible seating arrangements, while an enhanced tea point becomes a natural hub for interaction. A carefully selected rug adds homely touches, reinforcing the warm, residential feel the client desired.

Banquette seating provides comfortable alternative work settings, while four dedicated phone booths offer acoustic privacy for calls without disturbing colleagues. These varied spaces mean employees can choose the environment that best suits their task and working style at any given moment.

Thoughtful design details

The flooring scheme plays a subtle but important role in defining the space. We've specified varied carpet zones and vinyl walkways that guide movement and define different areas of the workplace. This thoughtful approach creates visual interest while serving practical wayfinding purposes.

The abundant natural light flooding through generous windows ensures the space feels bright and welcoming throughout the day. We maximised this key existing feature, as natural light is one of the most valued elements in any workplace and cannot be replicated in a home office setting.

Everything within the space is new, from the furniture to the flooring, creating a cohesive environment that feels fresh and contemporary. The result is a workplace with real personality – one that demonstrates how colour, comfort and smart spatial planning can create an office that inspires creativity and supports dynamic collaboration. Exceptional workspaces. Achieved by design.

Navigating operational challenges

The project presented unique operational challenges, with Deriv's office sitting within a mixed-use building housing residential flats above and a restaurant below. Our team worked within the building's main staircase – the primary access route for residents – requiring meticulous attention to cleanliness and minimal disruption throughout the six-week programme.

The close collaboration with Deriv throughout the design process resulted in a fantastic outcome. Together, we make it happen. Deriv's enthusiasm for bold, colourful design choices allowed us to create a workspace that delivers the creative energy and collaboration essential for innovative companies.

With Deriv scaling rapidly - serving 3 million traders globally and expanding our team - we needed a London workspace that matched the energy and innovation of our other hubs. We wanted a creative space where collaboration happens naturally and ideas flow. As we execute our growth strategy and AI-first transformation, this office supports the kind of dynamic, innovative work culture that defines Deriv. The result has real personality and reflects who we are as a company.
