We delivered the refurbishment of the 24/7 coworking space for Work.Life at 120 Aldersgate, near Farringdon, transforming two floors of the building into a warm and welcoming environment, packed with modern amenities.

Flexible and fully furnished, it delivers 13,000 sq ft of facilities in one of Londons most exciting business districts.

Work.Life is one of the UK’s fastest growing coworking providers.

A multiple award-winning business, it boasts nine locations across London, Reading and Manchester for its members to collaborate, socialise and get inspired.

Work.Life is known for creating smart, sustainable and truly sensational workspaces, designed to boost productivity and build happier, more engaged teams.

We were chosen to deliver the 16-week office refurbishment of Work.Life’s new coworking space at 120 Aldersgate, following a competitive tendering process.

Impressed by the level of detail we presented, Work.Life trusted us with the delivery of a office design concept entirely unique to the space and its heritage.

There is a Work.Life blueprint that all of its coworking locations must reflect however.

The company prides itself on the provision of spaces that are purposely smaller than its competition, so it can maintain a close-knit community, where everyone knows each other.

The new workspace in the City of London would need to be equipped for private meetings, as well as flexible enough to host networking events, weekly socials, and parties to help members make long-lasting business connections.

Whilst this would challenge our design team in different ways, our biggest obstacle would come in the shape of ongoing restrictions and materials shortages caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

We have delivered a new coworking destination that includes facilities designed for teams and entrepreneurs, with hot desking, meeting rooms, phone booths, a library and comfortable breakout spaces.

Its design is characterised by the use of reeded and patterned glass, reflective of the site’s historic use as a crystal glass making workshop, the Glass House Yard in the 1800s.

Crittall-style screens and decorative glass pendants complement the raw, industrial nature of the exposed concrete architecture. The effect is softened by the contrasting use of botanicals, geometric textiles, rich velvet textures, Scandinavian-style timbers and a pastel colour palette throughout.

A ground floor bar provides a shared central space that connects with a series of open fronted work areas, with folding cross walls promoting collaboration and social interaction.

At the heart of the space is a winter garden, with bifold doors opening out onto an external terrace and planting, with views up to the other floors of the building.

A new central staircase connects the ground floor to the space above, with additional first floor workspaces, including quiet external seating areas, a fully equipped kitchen, Zoom rooms, laptop tables and seating.

Members also benefit from evening and weekend access to the building, as well as secure bicycle storage and showering facilities. Spaces can be branded and customised to suit member requirements.

Theres a huge correlation between happiness and productivity engaged employees are not only better for individual wellbeing, but for business too. Weve finely tuned our workspaces to create a personal experience designed to increase happiness for our members. Office Principles has helped to make our Farringdon space come alive. The high-quality, striking design was everything we wanted and more.
